Meet the secretary
A lifelong connection
with trials.
Marty took over as club secretary from Henry and is also a member of the road trials setting-out team.
I’ve been around bikes all my life, and my family’s association with Manchester 17 goes back over 70 years through my Nanna, Doreen, and her second husband, David Rowland, who we run a national trial in memory of every year.
I started riding cycle trials in my teens, making the top 10 in the British Championship. I then took an interest in photography, which allowed me to travel following the Supermoto scene, as well as writing for a number of Supermoto publications.
Towards the end of my time in photography, I worked part-time for an agency, which allowed me to venture into football photography.
At the age of 30, I decided I wanted to have a go at motorcycle trials. In my first season, I went from my first Dead Easy Trial to finishing the year riding the Northern Experts Trial.
“I think it’s fair to say I live, eat and breathe trials, and have a great passion for national trials — what I like to call ‘proper trials’.”
